"What are you doing? Where are you going? When will you be back? Who will you
be with?" I hear these questions practically every day of my life from my
parents, and it tends to get pretty annoying! When I go on a cruise, these
are the last things I want to deal with. I'd rather be out having fun with my
new friends! However, parents always tend to worry about their "babies," so
even when you're on vacation, stuff like this comes up.
Believe it or not, there ARE several ways to keep the relationship between
you and your parents stress-free throughout your cruise.
Tell them what you're up to! I don't tell my parents every little thing I
do, but I try to keep them well informed. This way, they know I'm not doing
anything illegal, and they don't worry that I've fallen off the ship.
If you're having a blast, tell them. Your parents probably paid a pretty
hefty sum for you to go on this cruise, and most parents will appreciate
knowing that their kid is getting their money's worth.
Try to spend some time with them. Although my main goal on cruises is to
get away from my parents, it isn't theirs! Parents bring kids not only so
they can have fun, but also so they can see their kids more than they
normally do during a typical week.

Stick somewhat with the rules that apply at home. Obviously, the rules are
bent somewhat. If you normally have to be home by midnight, I imagine most
parents won't stick with this rule while on a cruise. However, it's not a
good idea to go off and get drunk! If you use your common sense, you won't
get in trouble and you'll still have a fabulous time.
Be nice! I try not to publicly diss your parents or give them attitude
while on vacation. My parents appreciate it when I go out of my way to be
nice to them. If you're nice enough, maybe you can convince them to take you
on another cruise!
Cruises are awesome vacations. I try not to ruin mine by going at it with my
parents! If you're cool to them, they are usually pretty cool to you.
